About HM & getting started

Who we are and how to start.

Yes — fully licensed and insured in Utah. We’re a DBA of R & D Bennett, L.L.C., Utah DOPL #14145194-5501. Always verify any contractor on Utah’s DOPL website; storm-chasing out-of-state crews put you personally at risk.
We’re based at 180 N University Ave #270 in Provo. We’ve been roofing Utah since 2013 — Wasatch Front, Central Utah, and the St. George area. Same local crew standard across Utah County (Provo, Orem, Lehi, and neighbors). See our service areas or contact us if you’re not sure we cover your address.
Yes — financing plans are available. Ask us during your free inspection and we’ll walk you through current options and terms.
Yes — we coordinate related trades like custom gutters and solar so everything happens once, in the right order.
Roof replacement

What a full roof job looks like.

Full process on roof replacement.

It depends on the roof. Size, pitch, tear-off layers, and material grade change the number. Standing seam metal and premium systems cost more up front and last longer — metal often lasts 2–3× asphalt. You get an itemized bid after a free inspection — not a range pulled from the air. Start with a free inspection on our roof replacement page or call 801-642-4462.
Most single-family homes: 2–3 days, weather permitting. Larger or steeper roofs and material upgrades can add time.
Yes — Utah County and most cities require a roofing permit, with sheathing and final inspections. We pull the permit and handle the inspections.
Late spring through early fall is ideal, but we install year-round when conditions allow. A failing roof shouldn’t wait for June.
Often, yes — especially with Class 4 impact-rated shingles or metal. Insurers price roof age heavily now. Ask your agent what credits apply before you choose materials. More on roof replacement.
Roof repair

Leaks, shingles, and when to claim.

Leak and patch work on roof repair.

Small flashing or shingle repairs sit at the low end; larger work involving decking or valleys runs more. Firm number after inspection — and if a repair won’t solve the problem, we’ll say so. See roof repair for how we approach leaks and storm damage.
Not always. A small repair below your deductible isn’t worth a claim on your record. If damage is widespread, a claim may cover full replacement. We inspect first and tell you which situation you’re in.
Usually yes, or close — we work with major manufacturers’ current and legacy lines, and show you the match before work starts.
For active leaks, call us directly at 801-642-4462.
Storm & insurance claims

Hail, wind, and the adjuster visit.

Almost always yes, for sudden hail or wind damage. Most Utah policies cover it — but you typically have about 12 months to file, and documentation decides claims. The dispute is rarely “covered or not” — it’s “how much damage is there,” which is why we inspect and document before you call your insurer. Details on storm damage & insurance claims.
Most policies require filing within about 12 months of the date of loss — some less. Check your policy’s “duties after loss” section, and don’t wait.
A single weather claim usually has less impact than people fear. But a denied claim still appears in your history — which is why we inspect before you file.
You can request a re-inspection with your contractor present, submit supplemental documentation, or invoke appraisal under your policy. Our documentation is built to support exactly that.
We provide the inspection report, scope documentation, and meet your adjuster. You file the claim (it’s your policy), but you’re never doing it alone.
Old roof / non-renewal

Age flags, aerial photos, and staying insured.

Non-renewal playbook on old-roof insurance cancellation.

Common — insurers flag roofs at 15–20 years from aerial imagery. Read the letter for two things: the exact reason and the deadline. Then get an independent inspection before agreeing to anything. Options include an inspection letter certifying remaining life, targeted repairs, or planned replacement. See old-roof insurance cancellation for the full playbook.
There’s no single rule — many carriers flag asphalt at 15–20 years, some sooner. Condition matters more than age when you can prove it. Metal and tile are typically insurable much longer.
Often, yes — especially when the flag came from aerial imagery, which regularly misreads shadows, stains, and patched-but-sound roofs. It’s the cheapest first move and frequently works.
Aerial review is now standard across major carriers — cheaper than sending inspectors. The good news: evidence-based rebuttals exist precisely because automated flags are often wrong.
Usually meaningfully cheaper — and Class 4 impact-rated shingles or metal can qualify for additional discounts. Ask your agent for their roof-rating credit schedule before choosing materials.
Fire-resistant / WUI

Wildfire zones and Class A roofs.

Class A systems on fire-resistant / WUI roofing.

Check Utah’s wildfire risk portal (wildfirerisk.utah.gov) — HB48 created a statewide map with a 1–10 Structure Exposure Score per structure, effective 2026. We can pull your score as part of a free consultation.
Utah County’s WUI ordinance requires a UL Class A or B roof covering, or an approved noncombustible material. Wood roofs aren’t permitted in the interface. See fire-resistant / WUI roofing for assemblies we install.
Yes — synthetic shake delivers the cedar aesthetic with a Class A fire rating and Class 4 impact rating. Real wood shake is prohibited in the interface.
In wildfire-exposed areas it can materially help — both on price and on staying insurable at all. A documented Class A assembly is the roof half of the story (defensible space is the other half).
Often less than people expect — Class A asphalt assemblies are close to standard replacement cost. Metal and synthetic shake cost more up front but carry 40–70 and 50 year lifespans.
