What to ask before you hire a roofer in Utah County
Most of the noise around roofing in Utah County is ads. This is the short list we would want a neighbor to use, including on us.

The checklist
1. Are you licensed in Utah, and under what name?

2. Who is actually on the roof?
Ask if it is their crew or a crew they hired for the week. Ask who you call if something leaks after they leave.
3. Will you show me photos of what you found?
A bid without photos is a guess. You should see the slopes, flashing, vents, and anything soft or missing — not just a total.
4. Is this a repair or a replacement, and why?
Age, wind from the canyons, and an insurance non-renewal are different problems. Provo, Pleasant Grove, and American Fork benches take canyon wind. Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs take open-valley wind. The fix should match the house, not a script.
5. If this is an insurance claim, what do you actually do?
A roofer can inspect and document. Your insurer decides coverage. Ask whether they will meet the adjuster, what photos they take, and whether they want you to sign anything before the carrier has looked. Read storm damage and insurance claims. Do not hire anyone who tells you to sign a check over or promises to “waive” what your policy says you owe.
6. What is in the written scope?
Tear-off or overlay, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and who hauls the debris. If it is not written, it is not the job.
